What to expect when
you apply

We don't just hire for the role. We hire for the questions you ask. Here's exactly how our process runs, what each conversation is for, and what we'll ask of you — so you can decide whether we're worth your time before you spend it.

Time

02 to 03 weeks

Conversations

Three, plus a short intro call

Where

Colombo and Melbourne

Three things we commit to

Applying for a job is work. These are the things we hold ourselves to, whether or not you end up joining us.

You'll hear back from us either way

Every application gets a decision. If you've spoken to us, you'll also get the reason. No silence, no waiting to find out by inference.

You'll meet the people you'd work with

Not a panel of strangers. The engineers and leads in your interviews are the ones you’d sit with day to day, so the questions go both ways.

We won't take more than two hours of your own time

Where a role needs a take-home task, it's capped at two hours and reviewed with you live. We don't mark work in private.

The process

Four conversations for most roles. We'll tell you where you are after every one, and you'll never be left guessing what the next step is.

Application review

Within 10 business days

A person reads your application — not a keyword filter. We're looking for evidence of how you think about problems, which often shows up in side projects and write-ups more than in job titles.

Worth doing

Link one thing you built or wrote, and add a line on what you'd change about it now.

Intro call with our talent team

30 minutes · video

A two-way scoping conversation. We'll walk you through the role, the client context and the team you'd join. You'll tell us what you're looking for and what you'd rather avoid. Salary range and working arrangements are discussed here, not at the end.

Worth doing

Bring your questions about the role. This call exists as much for you as it does for us.

Craft conversation

60–90 minutes · with the team

A working session with two people from the team you'd join, on a real problem of the kind we actually face — an architecture decision, a migration trade-off, a piece of design reasoning. No trick questions and no whiteboard algorithms. We're interested in how you reason out loud and what you do when you don't know something.

Worth doing

Think of a decision you'd defend and one you'd reverse. Both are useful.

Values conversation

45 minutes · with a leader

A conversation about how you work with other people: how you handle disagreement, what you do when a project is behind, how you give difficult feedback to someone more senior than you. Consulting work puts you in front of clients, so this one carries real weight.

Worth doing

Bring a situation that went badly and what you took from it. We'd rather hear that than a highlight reel.

Offer and onboarding

Within 3 business days

We call before we email. You'll get the full package in writing, time to consider it without being chased, and an introduction to your buddy before your first day so you're not walking in cold.

Worth doing

Ask what your first month looks like. We'd rather set that expectation before you sign than after.

If this is your first role

Two things worth flagging

Interns and graduates

The process is shorter — an intro call and one conversation with the team. We don't expect commercial experience. We do expect you to have built something, however small, and to be able to talk about why you made the choices you made.

Adjustments

If you need anything changed to interview at your best — extra time, written questions in advance, a different format, a specific time of day — tell us at any point. It won't count against you, and it won't be shared with the interview panel unless you want it to be.

Questions we get asked

The short answers

How long does the whole process take?

Two to three weeks from application to offer for most roles. If we need longer — usually because a client conversation has to happen first — we'll tell you why rather than going quiet.

Will I hear back if I'm not successful?

Yes. Applications that don’t progress past the first review get a reply within ten business days. Anyone who has spoken to us gets a decision and a reason.

Do you set take-home tasks?

Rarely, and never longer than two hours. Where a role genuinely needs one, it's stated in the job ad, and we review it with you live rather than marking it in private.

Can I apply again if I'm unsuccessful?

Yes, and there's no waiting period. If we think a different role would suit you better, we'll tell you which one.

Are roles remote, hybrid or onsite?

It varies by role and is stated in every job ad. Our teams work from Colombo and Melbourne, and most engineering roles are hybrid.

What should I ask you?

Anything. Ask which client you’d be working with, how technical decisions get made, or what went wrong on the last project. We hire people who ask difficult questions — the interview is a reasonable place to start.
