PostgreSQL DBA / Database Engineer

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented PostgreSQL DBA / Database Engineer for a 6 months contract to join our growing team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Overall experience: 7-10+ years in database engineering / DBA roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in enterprise environments.
• Solid SQL development and database design experience.
• Prior experience working closely with application development teams.

Must Haves:

• Extensive hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA.
• Strong skills in database design, schema modelling, and query optimization.
• Proven experience in SQL development.
• Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining PostgreSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of performance tuning, indexing, and capacity planning.
• Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Ability to collaborate with developers (not a DBA-only, siloed role).

Preferred:

• Experience supporting cloud-based PostgreSQL environments.
• Exposure to high-availability and replication setups.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Ability to review application queries and suggest performance improvements.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, upgrade, and manage PostgreSQL databases.
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and access controls.
• Perform routine maintenance including backups, indexing, and archiving.
• Design and review database schemas and data models.
• Collaborate closely with development teams to optimize queries and application performance.
• Analyse and troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions.
• Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards.
